Synopsis
Estranged bandmates reunite when the drummer throws himself an unexpected bachelor party. Cheap beer, jam sessions, and a pool — what could go wrong?
Between years of unspoken resentment, off-key vibes, and one member totally losing the plot, their final performance ends with one killer finale.
How It Was Made
Don't Make Friends was shot over 14 days in the summer of 2024 across southern Rhode Island and Massachusetts. A skeleton crew of friends — most of whom met while studying Film and Media at the University of Rhode Island — came together to make a feature film with no studio backing, no gatekeepers, and no budget to speak of.
The cast was made up mostly of non-actors. The crew wore every hat. The house where they shot became a home for two weeks straight — eating together, shooting all night, sleeping whenever they could.
Written, directed, edited, and scored by Joey Sawyer. Produced by Joey Sawyer, Molly Costa, and Chris Bouchard. Shot by Molly Costa.

A Writers Club Film
Don’t Make Friends is the debut feature from Writers Club Films — a production company born from a group of friends who met in film school and started getting together weekly to write.
What started as a writers’ room became a crew. The crew made a movie. The movie is just the beginning.
